Biofilters

Description

Using biological treatment systems are sometimes the most economical and suitable way to treat odors and volatile organic materials. Biological treatment systems use bacteria that oxidize the organic molecules under suitable conditions.
The biological treatment systems are divided into three subsystems:
Biofilter- a filter (damp but not wet) with a dry biological platform. These filters are characterized by their large size and their simple operation.
Trickling biofilter- A closed system with a wet (mostly set) platform where the bacteria is. The system resembles a washing column with a biological platform. These systems are characterized by their smaller size and higher efficiency than biological systems.
Bioscrubber\biofilter- a system that contains a regular washing column and a separate biological reactor. The purpose of the washing column is to transfer the organic material from the air into the fluid phase. The fluid phase, which contains the organic material, is treated with a fluid reactor which contains biologic bacteria. The products of the treatment are mostly CO2, depending on the composition of the pollutant.
For the most part, biological systems are sensitive systems that require treatment and monitoring of the biological platform which includes: suitable nutritional components, suitable temperature and humidity and more.
A.B.P Chemical Engineering and Ventilation manufactures, imports and maintains biological systems of all kinds.
Main Applications:
 Treating odors and organic pollutants
 Relevant industries: Waste, wastewater, food and more.
Main Properties:
 The units are constructed of steel or plastic materials according the process conditions
 Biological systems cannot treat all organic pollutants, so the process conditions must be carefully examined before choosing the solution.
 The efficiency of the biological filter treatment depends significantly on the system’s concentrations, the process conditions and the momentary loads emitted from the process.
